'Beautiful things don't ask for attention' - The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
/First things first ... Happy New Years!! I have been in a bit of a rut lately, follow that with a couple of sick spells and I find myself in need of a pick me up. Today I found just that and in the cinema of all places.
I was kind of on the fence about this movie, I guess the main reason lies in the fact that it's a remake of an older movie (something I loathe). Funnily enough the original is on the Empire top 500 list which I am meaning to get to!
Besides being visually beautiful this movie has everything you would need to inspire you. As I sat watching this movie, I found myself thinking back to the speech Steve Jobs made at that very famous graduation. This movie, as well as that speech make you realise how short life really is and that we should all seize each moment as if it was our last!
Walter Mitty starts out as a lonely single man with little accomplishments, none he finds worthy of mentioning in his online dating profile. You would think that working for Life magazine would be exhilarating and an exciting place to work but not for Walter. Things soon change however and Walter finds himself on an adventure most of us would kill for (myself included).
By the time the credits are rolling I find my travel itch is back, something I always want to do but somehow keep delaying. Yes we all have responsibilities that hinder our ability to travel for long periods of time but this is not a valid enough excuse not to travel at all! We can all make some time to travel, even if it's for a few days, the trick is to pick a different destination each time you fly. I am sure that with all the cheap flights out there something will appeal to you!
It may be the fact that today is the start of a new year and also the fact that I saw such an inspirational movie but darn golly I am going to do something about it this year. There is a whole world out there, full of sights and experiences which I want to be a part of. I am definitely going to grab the bull by its horns, even if it means visiting just two different countries this year.
The ad for this movie sums it up perfectly ... Stop dreaming Start Living!
